Bonita didn't just advocate for reform. She helped organize the movement that put marijuana decriminalization on the ballot and won with 54% of the vote.

Co-Founded the Kansas Black Leadership Council

The Kansas Black Leadership Council was founded in 2015 after Bonita recognized the need for a stronger, unified voice for Black Kansans in the legislative process. She brought together respected leaders from across the state to identify community priorities and advocate directly with lawmakers.

Championed Same-Day Voter Registration in Kansas

In 2016, Bonita helped bring same-day voter registration to the Kansas Legislature after seeing too many eligible Kansans left out of the democratic process. It was one more step in Bonita’s lifelong commitment to expanding civic participation and ensuring every voice has the opportunity to be heard.
